The Little White Bus

No – not  the latest in children’s books, but a brand new bus service which I used recently to take me from Hardraw to Garsdale  Railway Station.  The Little White Bus is operated by the Upper Wensleydale Community Partnership linking small villages and hamlets between Hawes and Garsdale Station.  The bus is driven by volunteers and funded by North Yorkshire County Council.  The cost for my journey to the railway station was £3.

I boarded the bus at The Green Dragon Inn at Hardraw and had a pleasant chat with the driver who told me that if you are also in the area( but not on the direct route) for example Keld, they will within reason also picked you up if you can give a day’s notice by phoning the driver’s mobile ( 07528957451). The cost for this services is £5, which I think is quite reasonable and would allow walkers to get around this part of the Dales with relative ease with a bit of planning.  The service operates Monday – Friday at certain times, some times are Mon & Friday only and there is a Saturday service as well.  All runs are year round but there is currently no Sunday service.

I will look to use this service again when I am in the area, it gives a further reason and opportunity to leave my car at home and use the train and ‘The Little White Bus’.

Below is a pdf of the timetable and route.
